Welsh quits as manager

Friday, May 4 – 1956
Don Welsh, manager of Liverpool and former England and Charlton star, resigned yesterday.
“I came to a sudden decision and handed in my resignation,” he said last night. “I may quit football.”
This coincided with the end of his contract, and despite Don’s denials, confirmed the belief that all has not been well between the Liverpool board and himself.
Both Liverpool clubs are without a manager. Cliff Britton left Everton in February. (Daily Mirror, 05-05-1956)
